Ford automakers have something to boast about. The 2017 Ford F-350 Lariat went up against the 2017 GMC Sierra 3500 in a comparison test. The test is the annual Ultimate One-Ton HD Challenge hosted by PickupTrucks.com. For the Ford F-350, coming out on top is no big feat, considering that the GMC Sierra 3500 was the contest’s 2014 winner.

The Ford F-350 performed exceptionally well, scoring 2,352 out of a possible 2,600. The GMC Sierra scored 2,287. According to Aaron Bragman of cars.com, the Ford F-350 won due to its combination of livability, capability, and useful new technologies.

When verifying the truck’s power using a portable dynamometer, the Ford F-350 was able to unleash 360 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque. This was quite impressive considering that the test was conducted in Las Vegas on a hot summer day. High heat is a known diminisher in engine performance.

There is much other news going on for the Ford F series as a whole. The 2018 Ford F-150 has been getting a lot of attention as well. For starters, the pickup has a new standard engine in the form of the 3.3-liter V6 engine that delivers 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. There is also the option for an upgrade to a yet-to-be-named diesel engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The base V6 engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Beyond that, there are a few cosmetic changes, including a different grille for each trim as well as a number of add-on packages for customizing your ride.
