Ford will be releasing one of its GT supercars later in 2016. Even if you can foot the expected $400,000 price tag, you my still not be able to get your hands on one. Due to the limited release – Ford only plans to release 500 units – the automaker will require potential buyers to undergo a lengthy application process.

So what does the application consist of? Well, for starters, the applicant is questioned whether they currently own a Ford, whether they work for a company that uses Ford vehicles, if they are a car collector, and if they are a motorsport enthusiast. Despite the steep price tag, factors like age and median income are not among the questions.

As you can see, Ford has set the bar pretty high. At the very least, you want to own a Ford either currently or in the past. If not, then you might as well forget it.

If you believe you’re a worthy candidate, though, then Ford has an online GT configurator where you can custom make your own GT by choosing from a palette of eight colors and seven stripe colors. Other exterior additions include glossy and matte carbon fiber trim. Even if the GT is a vehicle you can only dream of, the configurator is still a nice addition to tinker with just to give you something to drool over.

It’s probably safe to say that the 2016 Ford GT will only end up in the garage of a privileged few.
