Lately, there has been rumors about the Ford automaker releasing more performance-oriented vehicles. Of course, the Ford Focus RS is the brand’s flagship model for the high-performance car segment. The RS nameplate, however, may also be coming to the Ford Explorer.

A high-performance SUV isn’t completely unheard of. The word is that the automaker is developing the Ford Explorer RS, which will be fitted with an all-new 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engine. This engine will reportedly deliver 500 horsepower. The SUV is also reportedly driven on an all-wheel-drive system and be able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Besides the Ford Focus RS, other models like the Ford Fusion Sport and Ford F150 Raptor are also developed with high performance in mind. All that is missing at this point is a high-performance SUV.

Of course, these are all just rumors at this point. If the news is indeed true, however, then many suspect official news will be released during the 2016 LA Auto Show. Others have speculated that news of the Ford Explorer RS will coincide with the announcement of the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500. That model really has muscle car lovers talking.

It’s no surprise that the Ford Explorer may be potentially getting an RS variant. The SUV, in fact, was just listed as the most popular SUV for consumers in the Generation Xer age demographic. Of course, generation Xers are not exactly the demographic to lust for high-performance cars, but it does expand the SUV’s appeal to include millennials and younger age groups.

There’s no RS model for the 2016 Ford Explorer, but you can check it out nonetheless at Folsom Lake Ford. You can check out the lineup and other Ford cars for sale near Roseville, CA. We hope to see you soon!
