The Ford brand has always been known for innovation, and it proved just that with the release of a Ford Mustang that delivers 529 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The customized, one-time Ford Mustang has been given the nickname Old Yeller, and as you can probably guess, the car comes with a yellow hue.
The car is modeled after the World War II era fighter plane, the P-51D Mustang, also made by the Ford company. It holds the prop plane record for the longest travel time of five hours and 20 minutes. The plane is powered by a Ti-VCT V8 engine and is the most powerful aspirated engine ever made by the automaker.
The Old Yeller Ford Mustang is also outfitted with aviation gauges and Recaro seats. It is built on the same platform as the Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang.
According to Edsel B. Ford II, a board member for the auto brand, the release of Old Yeller pays homage to Boob Hoover, an aerobatic aviator who considered by some to be the greatest pilot to have ever lived.
This will be the ninth consecutive year that the automaker has released a customized Ford Mustang. In 2015, the company auctioned a white Ford Mustang as a tribute to the Apollo space missions. The car was sold to the highest bidder for $3 million. Proceeds from this year’s auction will go to the Experimental Association, a program that provides aviation-related courses for youths.
