Ford automakers really made the most of the 2018 Detroit Auto Show by unveiling some of its latest lineups. Among them include the 2019 Ford Ranger and the limited-edition 2018 Ford Bullitt Mustang Edition. The latter is a homage to the 1968 Ford Mustang used in the classic 1968 film Bullit.

There were no mentions of a new hybrid or all-electric model, though discussions have been going on for some time about an all-electric SUV, rumored to be released possibly in 2020.

The model is believed to be called the Ford Mach 1, and it’s an all-electric SUV with a 300-mile range. The name is borrowed from the original 1968 Ford Mustang Mach 1, which was a performance version of the pony car. This led to some believing the upcoming Ford Mach 1 may borrow styling or performance cues from the Ford Mustang. In essence, the Ford Mach 1 may be an all-electric Ford Explorer with Ford Mustang capabilities.

Ford automakers is really investing heavily in the electric automotive industry. The Ford Mach 1 is just the first of many to come. The Blue Oval has announced plans to release an additional 16 all-electric vehicle models and 24 hybrid ones by 2022. The company also has plans to expand its budget within the segment from $4.5 billion to $11 billion in the next five years. Currently, the Ford Focus Electric is the brand’s only all-electric model.
