Spy shots captured photos of what appears to be the midcycle update for the 2018 Ford F-150. As expected, the pickup is heavily camouflaged, but there appears to be changes made to the rear and front ends. The side panels were uncovered, indicating that no changes will be made in those areas.
A previous spy photo showed a 2018 Ford F-150 test mule with a diesel engine. The refresh is also expected to have an optional 5.0-liter V8 engine.
In an interview with Automotive News, Ford spokesperson Joe Hinrichs indicated that the automaker plans on expanding its diesel strategy for its truck and van segment. He wouldn’t, however, confirm whether the midcycle Ford F-150 would be getting the new diesel engine option. He did say, though, that there is a strong consumer demand for diesel engines.
The camouflaged Ford F-150 wasn’t seen alone. The pickup was seen alongside a camouflaged 2018 Ford Mustang, also due for a midcycle refresh. It appears the upcoming Ford Mustang will be getting a new front fascia and LED-ringed headlights. The taillights were also covered, indicating that those lights may also be getting an update.
Of course, these are the 2018 models; 2017 isn’t even here yet. Speaking of the upcoming new year, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is making a lot of news. There are many reviews from auto sites that have put the pickup to the test. Many professional testers had nothing but positive things to say.
