The 2016 Ford Explorer SUV is finally here and boasts some impressive technology, not to mention the beloved EcoBoost engine that has been getting a lot of rave in the auto industry community.
Originally released in 1990 as a 1991 model, the Ford Explorer quickly became popular and was noted for its spacious interior. It was not long before it became a bestseller among consumers interested in embarking on long road trips with the entire family and equipment in tow.
So what can one expect from the 2016 Ford Explorer SUV? For one, it will have several updates in the design department. This includes a closed-off lower roof rack and higher-positioned grille and LED headlamps.
Aside from the base model, the Explorer will also be available in Sport, Limited, XLT, and Platinum. The platinum will feature an exceptionally lavish interior with the upholstery wrapped in Nirvana leather with micro-perforation and quilted stitching.
The base model will come with a standard 3.5L V6 engine, while the platinum version will have the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. Those who opt for the base model, though, will have the option of outfitting their Explorer with a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder prime. The engine upgrade means a 40-horsepower increase with no major reduction in fuel efficiency.
The EcoBoost can be combined with the four-wheel drive with Terrain Management System, making the pairing the first of its kind for the Explorer.
