It’s common practice for manufacturers to release a prototype concept car to gauge the consumers’ receptivity to it. Ford has done just that with the 2016 Ford Bronco. Car enthusiasts may remember the old Bronco, which was discontinued in 1996. Rumors have been spreading now of the utility vehicle making a comeback after being discontinued 20 years ago.
News of the 2016 Ford Bronco originally began on April 1, 2014, which naturally led to some people believing it was an April Fool’s Day prank. Later interviews with Ford personnel confirmed that the original story was false and there were no current plans to re-release the Bronco.
However, specific details of the 2016 Ford Bronco were released, which led some to believe that Ford may in fact have plans to release the model after all. One of the details included three possible engine variants, one being a 5.0 eight-cylinder gasoline engine with 420 horsepower.
The rumors were also kept alive with the release of a Facebook page dedicated to the Bronco. According to the page, the vehicle is officially named the 2016 Ford SVT Bronco.
The Facebook page, however, has not included new updates since April 2, 2015. All postings after that date, strangely, have shifted to talks of a 2017 Ford Bronco. There have been no new postings at all of either the 2016 or 2017 Ford Bronco since May 9.
So what do you think? Is this phantom Ford Bronco in the works somewhere inside a Ford factory, or is it all gossip? Even if it’s the latter, there’s no need to worry.
