If you find a used Ford car with high mileage on our lot, it could still have a long life ahead of it. At Folsom Lake Ford we know just how far some of our favorite Ford vehicles can travel, so don’t be surprised that a model with more than 100,000 miles on it can still be a good buy.
If you do decide to buy a used car that has more miles on it, here’s what you should look for.
Maintenance Records
This is one of the best ways to figure out how well a used car was cared for. If the previous owners didn’t skip oil changes and other types of routine maintenance, that high mileage used car will be in better condition than you would expect.
A More Recent Model Year
If you have the choice of two used cars with high mileage numbers, the better choice is often the newer car. The older car may be used more for shorter trips, which aren’t as good for a car as longer trips are.
That newer used vehicle likely has more highway miles under its belt. These are better for a car than short trips around town at low speeds, with frequent stops and starts.
Rust and Other Red Flags
A high-mileage car can have many miles left to travel, but you don’t want to buy a car that will end up costing you a ton of money to fix up and maintain. Have a mechanic inspect the vehicle for rust and other issues that could result in big repair bills that end up busting your budget.
