The 2018 Ford Mustang was unveiled to the public for the first time at the North American International Auto Show. According to Melvin Betancourt, the Ford design manager, parts like the grille, bumper, and fender have all been revised for this model year. Overall, the vehicle is a bit shapelier; it has also been lowered a bit, giving it even more of a pony car feel.
The biggest modifications of all, however, lie in the technology department. It practically has all the driver assistance features introduced in other recent models. This includes pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, and a distance alert system.
The revised digital instrument cluster enables the driver to seamlessly navigate the menu that includes trip info, lap timer, and the conventional speedometer and tachometer. You can even change the background color scheme.
As with previous models, buyers still have the option between a 5.0-liter V8 engine and the four-cylinder EcoBoost engine.
As part of the rollout and promotion, there was a backstage segment during the auto show that featured a surprise appearance from Dwayne Johnson. The promo featured wounded military veteran Marlene Rodriguez, who was giving an interview when Johnson abruptly appears from behind the curtains. A shocked Rodriguez is then given another special surprise when Johnson announces that she will be gifted with the all-new 2018 Ford Mustang. This is the automaker’s way of giving thanks to the selfless service of the country’s men and women in uniform.
