The 2018 Ford F-150 is slated for a fall arrival. It will also be the first in its series to have a diesel engine option, which will become available by summer of 2018.
This will mark another in a string of changes the F-series have gone through in recent times. The Blue Oval began incorporating aluminum for the truck’s body in 2015. In 2016, the automaker announced the addition of a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The company already offers a diesel engine option for some of the heavy-duty pickups, such as the 2017 Ford F-350 and Ford F-450. The decision to make the engine available for the Ford F-150 was based on consumer demand. Many truck owners wanted better towing capacity. Diesel engines also have better fuel economy, which will help the company meet fuel economy ratings. No information has been released yet, though, regarding specific MPG.
Aside from the diesel engine, buyers will also be able to opt for the new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. The standard is the 3.3-liter V6 engine.
Other changes include a logo stamped on the tailgate. The front has also been redesigned with a wider and more horizontally-shaped grille. Additionally, the interior will have WiFi connection, good for up to 10 devices.
The Ford F-150 is an American favorite. In 2016 alone, over 820,000 units were sold. That is roughly 93 trucks driven off dealership lots every hour. The 2018 model was recently showcased at the North American Auto Show.
